Marking World Refugee Day Through Unity and Solidarity
04 July 2026
On the occasion of World Refugee Day, a series of activities was organized to promote social inclusion, mutual understanding, and connections among people from different cultures and backgrounds.
The commemoration began with a visit to a local school, bringing together students, unaccompanied children from the Temporary Reception Centre Lipa, and children from the Safe House in Bihać. Through discussions, the exchange of experiences, and creative workshops, participants reflected on the challenges of forced displacement, while symbols of friendship, acceptance, and support were left along the Road of Hope and Dignity.

At the Family Zone, a celebration showcased the richness of diverse cultures through traditional dances from Iran, Egypt, Afghanistan, Ghana, and Cuba. Participants created cards with messages of support and jointly designed a poster symbolizing unity and solidarity.

At the Hope Community Centre Hadžići, members of the local community, people on the move from TRC Blažuj, residents of the Paradise nursing home, and volunteers spent time together through various social and cultural activities, sharing experiences and strengthening mutual connections.

In cooperation with IOM, IPSIA, Caritas Banja Luka Diocese, and UNHCR, a sports and recreational event was organized at the Temporary Reception Centre Lipa for more than 200 participants. Football and volleyball tournaments, tug-of-war, and other games contributed to an atmosphere of togetherness and team spirit.

The occasion was also marked at the Reception Centre for Unaccompanied and Vulnerable Children, where beneficiaries had the opportunity to socialize, strengthen relationships, and create a positive environment through workshops and joint activities. Fun and interactive events further highlighted the importance of solidarity, respect, and building communities in which everyone feels welcomed and valued.

This occasion serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting the rights and dignity of people who have been forced to flee their homes. It also highlights the need to build inclusive communities based on solidarity, mutual respect, and understanding, while reaffirming our shared responsibility to ensure that everyone has access to safety, support, and the opportunity to live with dignity.
