Improved living conditions for the most vulnerable children
26 April 2025

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Reception center in Sarajevo for minor asylum seekers and vulnerable children has successfully undergone extensive renovation. This significant project represents an important step towards ensuring safer, more comfortable, and more dignified living conditions for the most vulnerable members of society. The renovation work included key improvements, among which are:
• A completely new roof, providing reliable protection against weather conditions,
• Improved thermal insulation of the walls, achieving energy efficiency and a more comfortable stay during cold winter days,
• Renovated façade, contributing to the safety and aesthetic appearance of the building. These changes have transformed the center into a safer and more supportive environment for 70 children from Afghanistan, Syria, Morocco, and other countries. Many of these children have experienced severe traumatic events, including displacement, loss, and uncertainty.
Our Reception center is not only a place where they find shelter, but also a space where they begin the process of recovery, building a new life, and looking towards a better future. In addition to providing basic living conditions, this project emphasizes the importance of laying the foundation for stability, growth, and integration. Beneficiaries at the center have the opportunity to receive psychosocial support, continue their education, and develop a sense of belonging, which is crucial for their long-term development and well-being.
The realization of this project would not have been possible without the selfless support of individuals, organizations, and partners who share a common vision of providing a safe and encouraging environment for every child. Their generosity and commitment testify to the power of solidarity in creating positive change. The Jesuit Refugee Service continues its mission of advocating for and assisting the most vulnerable children, ensuring that their rights and dignity are respected at every step.
