Education as the key to integration and empowerment of migrants

Through a series of educational workshops and courses, we strive to provide migrants and refugees in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills that can pave the way to a better future. Our activities cover various aspects of education — from language acquisition and digital literacy to vocational training for specific professions.

One of the foundations of integration is language proficiency. To support this, we organize Bosnian and English language courses, enabling migrants to communicate more easily, understand their local environment, and improve their chances of integrating into society and the labor market. Special emphasis is placed on practical exercises through which participants learn to navigate everyday situations — from going to the store to speaking with a doctor.

On the other hand, recognizing that digital skills have become a basic necessity in the modern world, we emphasize the importance of empowering migrants in this area. Through IT courses and workshops held in the IT corners of the Temporary reception centers Lipa and Blažuj, participants acquire fundamental knowledge in computer use, internet navigation, online communication, and the basics of digital safety. These skills not only make their daily lives easier but also prepare them for future opportunities in the labor market.

A particularly valuable initiative are the auto mechanic and hairdressing training courses we organize to provide migrants with practical knowledge and certification for professions that are in demand across Europe. These courses offer not only theoretical knowledge but also hands-on experience, enabling participants to acquire concrete skills that can help them secure a livelihood.

First Aid as an Invaluable Skill
First aid trainings are regularly held at the JRS Day Center in Bihać, equipping migrants with the ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations. This knowledge not only enhances their own safety but also contributes to the well-being of the community they live in.

All these activities share a common goal: to provide migrants with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills that will open the door to a better future. Education is a powerful tool for integration, and JRS BiH, through its programs, demonstrates that investing in knowledge means investing in dignity and hope.
